Have you ever wondered why the Farm looks the way it does? Or how it's possible that a 2.25-acre farm can provide produce to an 80-share summer CSA; a 50-share late fall CSA; farm stand; farmers' market; and food pantry donations? All while offering educational programs?
Much of the Farm's layout today owes directly to the Master Plan for the Farm, created by founding board member Ted Chapman to answer just these questions. Building on principles from biointensive agriculture and permaculture, Ted created a vision for the Farm becoming the center of a renaissance of "gardening" in the "Garden City."
Come spend an evening learning about this early vision for the Farm, and how today it embodies, and at time times departs from, this plan.
This event will take place in the barn at Newton Community Farm, 303 Nahanton Street, Newton MA 02459. Please park on Winchester Street and go up the stairs onto the deck and into the barn.
This event is free, but registration is requested.
Bio: Ted Chapman was a member of the Farm’s Board of Directors in its inaugural season. He is a homeopathic practitioner and landscape designer and a member of the Newton Farm Commission and the Parks and Recreation Commission.
